The landscape for small and medium business to thrive and grow is more challenging today but presents greater opportunity than five years ago, according to President of SMB Global Solutions Mark Shearer.

“Leveraging the right technology can be a significant competitive advantage,” he shared during the global #PowerofPrecision chat. His advice to SMBs: “routinely evaluate your technology set.”

It was the first of countless actionable ideas and insights imparted to participants, along with fellow panelists Rieva Lesonsky, CEO of smalbizdaily.com and former editor of Entrepreneur Magazine, and SCORE, the noted mentoring organization to America’s small businesses. The discussion resonated with more than 350 business professionals from 27 countries earlier this month. The content-rich hour generated 1,800+ tweets. The combined expertise of the panel prompted a chat host Brian Moran refer to tweet early in the hour, that it was fast “becoming a “How To” manual for small business owners who are planning for 2017.”

What’s changed? For starters, “Buying” is now global, Lesonsky tweeted. And, she added, “It’s now easy and affordable to access #tech.”  That said, SCORE impressed on attendees, “People still prefer to do business with other people rather than companies. Always emphasize a personal approach.”

Despite its growing complexity, Shearer wrapped the chat with a positive message, this is a truly exciting time for SMBs. Here’s a full summary of the chat. Watch for updates on Twitter about our #PowerofPrecision chat coming in 2017 by following @PitneyBowes.
