USPS® Announces September Rate Change, Reclassification for First-Class Mail Parcels

The U.S. Postal Service announced this month that it will increase its rates on First-Class Mail® Parcels (FCM Parcels) by a weighted average of 9.9 percent, effective September 3, 2017.

The rate change follows the Postal Regulatory Commission’s recently approved reclassification of First-Class Mail Parcels, which have been transferred from the USPS’s market dominant product list to its competitive product list. As a result, FCM Parcels will now be considered under the “Retail” price category of the First-Class Package Service (FCPS), which also includes a Commercial Parcels price category.

FCPS allows you to ship light packages weighing under 16 ounces. Prices within the Retail category are available for items weighing not over 13 ounces and will range between 14 percent and 31 percent higher than Commercial prices.

In the chart below, you can see exactly how the rates compare between the two categories, and how the new rate differs from old FCM Parcel pricing. Keep up on latest postal rate changes information at Postal Information.
