Products affected: DM50/DM55 (K721), DM60 (K722)
UK postal regulations require that a franking machine be inspected periodically. This inspection occurs automatically when your franking machine is refilled with postage, when your system connects to the Pitney Bowes Data Centre to perform a balance enquiry, or to perform a data upload.

If a connection to the Pitney Bowes Data Centre does not occur within a 90 day period, the franking machine will display Inspection Due or Inspection Required.
  • Inspection Due can be cleared by connecting to the Pitney Bowes Data Centre, or pressing the clear button.
  • Inspection Required can only be cleared by connecting to the Pitney Bowes Data Centre. Until a successful connection is made, the franking machine will be locked and cannot print postage.

To clear an inspection message:
  1. Make sure that your system is connected via a Communication Device or SmartLink™, via PC Meter Connect, or via analogue phone line, in order to communicate with the Pitney Bowes Data Centre.
If you have not yet connected your system, see the DM50/DM55 Installation Guide / DM60 Installation Guide, or the DM50/DM55 Getting Started / DM60 Getting Started page.
  1. Press the Menu / Options key.
  2. Press Review (up) until the meter says Connect to Pitney Bowes?
  3. Press Enter/Yes.
  4. The meter connects to the Pitney Bowes Data Centre and displays your available balance.
  5. When prompted to add postage, press Enter/Yes if you wish to add funds to the franking machine, otherwise press No.
  6. The franking machine will check for any available updates. If updates are available, select Get update now. Updates will download and install automatically.
  7. After the updates have been installed, select Continue. The inspection message should now be cleared.
If you experience any problems or errors, see the DM50/DM55 Troubleshooting or DM60 Troubleshooting section.

If the inspection message is not cleared after following these steps,
contact Technical Support. Please have your franking machine type (PCN) and Serial Number (Meter #) ready, these can be located on a white sticker at the back of the meter.
