The crowds are just starting to shuffle in, and you can already feel the buzz of excitement of the audience in anticipation of the incredible data stories about to be told through this year’s IronViz competition.
For those of you not yet familiar with what Iron Viz is all about, you’re in for a treat. This data competition unlike any, sifts through thousands of submissions from tableau users to determine global qualifiers that compete for the top three finalist spots live at #data19. This year’s three lucky and talented finalists Hesham Eissa, Lindsey Poulter, and Joshua Smith, will be taking the stage at 5:30p.m. PST to go head-to-head onstage in an attempt to create the best visualization in 20 minutes. All three contestants are required to use the same data set, and the part that literally has us leaping out of our seats with excitement is that they will be using our data to do it.
All three contestants will crunch data from restaurants and food stores around the world using our own Pitney Bowes’ World Points of Interest & Demographics Data. This eight-million-row data set features hundreds of food-related categories that the contestants will use to create informative and dynamic vizzes as they battle it out live in front of thousands of their closest Tableau friends and fanatics. Each vizzers score will then be determined by two components: the Judges’ Score and the Audience Score.
So, whose viz will reign supreme? Things are about to get cooking – so we’ll know soon enough. Best of luck to all three contestants.
