Welcome — and thanks for choosing pbSmartPostage. You’ve just equipped your business with tools designed to maximize sending efficiency and cost savings. You’re only a few clicks away from saving up to 55% on shipping and 1% on stamps – and skipping those trips to the post office.

While pbSmartPostage has been designed to be simple to use and intuitive, you may find the topics below helpful. You’ll find information on not only getting started, but also tips on getting the most out of pbSmartPostage.

Welcome Kit

If you haven’t already, you will be receiving your welcome kit in the mail shortly. This welcome kit includes:

  • Two shipping label sheets for printing shipping labels (a total of four labels)
  • Two stamp label sheets for printing stamps (a total of 50 stamp labels)
  • Two test stamp sheets to ensure your stamps print correctly

If you ordered a scale, printer, or other supplies, these will arrive separately.

Logging In

pbSmartPostage is available as both an online application and a Windows desktop application. You may use either or both versions at no additional cost, and both function nearly identically. Both versions require an internet connection.

Online Version:

The online version of pbSmartPostage is accessible via a web browser, such as Internet Explorer. To login, go to www.pbsmartpostage.com and sign in with your PB.com ID. If you signed up for pbSmartPostage online, your PB.com ID is the username and password you entered when checking out. 

Windows Desktop Version:

The Windows desktop version of pbSmartPostage can be downloaded and installed directly on your PC, eliminating the need for Java updates. You can download it. Once you have it installed, just click the pbSP icon and your desktop and sign in with your PB.com ID. If you signed up for pbSmartPostage online, your PB.com ID is the username and password you entered when checking out.

Adding Postage

You can add postage using a credit card, a Purchase Power account, or a Reserve Account. Your postage account balance is displayed in the top right corner of the screen.

  • Click the (+) icon next to your balance in the top right of the screen. The Add Postage dialog box opens.
  • Select an amount to add. Your default payment method is displayed. You have the option to select a different payment method, such as a different credit card and Purchase Power account.   • Select a Cost Account (optional; Cost Accounts are discussed below).
  • Click Add Postage.

Printing Shipping Labels

With pbSmartPostage, you get discounted shipping rates, which can save you up to 55%. You can print IMpb-compliant shipping labels from the Home screen or by hovering over Print in the top navigation bar.  To begin, select the type of packaging you are using, such as a Priority Mail box or large envelope, and then follow the simple instructions on screen.

Printing Stamps

With pbSmartPostage, you get discounted stamp rates, which save you up to 1%.You can print stamps from the Home screen or by hovering over Print in the top navigation bar.  To begin, select what you will be printing the stamps on, such as a stamp sheet or envelope, and then follow the simple instructions on screen.

Managing Your Spend

pbSmartPostage lets you view transaction reports, request refunds, file insurance claims, and track packages quickly and easily. Hover over History in the top navigation bar to begin.

Using Your Address Book

You can use the Address Book to add, update, delete, import, or export your contacts. You can even verify an address. You can also save time by selecting a contact in your Address Book to quickly print a shipping label or envelope with their information. Hover over Address Book in the top navigation bar to begin.

Creating & Assigning Cost Accounts

Cost Accounts allow you to assign specific tags to your transactions to enhance reporting or simplify chargebacks. For example, when printing a shipping label or adding postage, you can assign a cost account to that transaction, such as Client ABC or Sales Dept. That cost account will then appear in your transaction reports.

Ordering Supplies

You can order supplies, such as free USPS boxes, labels, scales, and printers by hovering over Supplies in the top navigation bar to begin.

*Note: pbSmartPostage is currently not optimized for Mac.  Improvements forthcoming later in 2015. You will not be able to print shipping labels on a thermal printer or roll stamp printer. Additionally, you can still use your pbSmartPostage scale, however the weight will need to be entered manually.

Tablets

iPad:

pbSmartPostage can perform most functions on the iPad, such as viewing reports and managing your account. Printing of stamps and shipping labels, however, is restricted as the iOS platform does not support Java.
