‘Tis the 2019 holiday shipping season

We’ve broken down the surcharges you can expect and offer tips to help you be prepared

The holiday season is upon us and much to shippers' delight they won’t experience as many shipping surcharges as with prior years. Both FedEx® and UPS® announced they won’t be adding additional residential holiday surcharges this holiday season. UPS chairman and CEO David Abney said the lack of surcharges is intended to enable UPS customers to “plan now for a great holiday shopping season and to satisfy their customers by utilizing UPS’s industry-leading on-time delivery service.”

As with anything, exceptions do apply. Peak shipping charges are designed to help offset expenses incurred for additional air and truck cargo capacity, among other costs, during significant volume surges (i.e. the holiday season). There are a few scenarios in which peak surcharges will apply during the holiday season if you ship with FedEx or UPS. It is important to note that the USPS is not implementing any additional residential or peak season surcharges during the holiday season.

Below is an overview of the 2019 FedEx and UPS Peak Season Surcharges holiday shippers should keep an eye out for.
