DFWorks Internet Access for Funds Refills

print

Internet access for DFWorks Funds Management module only:

Access to the Postage by Phone center is needed to perform meter refills through the DFWorks application. To do so, access through the client’s firewall to cometservp1.pb.com over port 80 inbound/outbound is a requirement. The Postage by Phone center has two different IP address (199.231.45.36 & 199.231.43.36)  associated with the above URL for purposes of load balancing, maintenance, etc. Therefore the URL (not IP Address) is used to access the Postage by Phone website and must be allowed through the firewall.

Additional Funds Management Considerations:

The DFWorks server acts as a “proxy” between the meter and the Postage by Phone center. Although access to the PbP center will be achieved through the “Client Segment” (Client’s network/IP Address), the HTTP Host Header will show the IP address of the DFWorks server as seen by the meter (10.10.10.102) in the firewall logs. This IP address may be considered non-routable for some IT organizations. To ensure Funds Management functionality, an exception must be made.

DFWorks Funds network traffic is sent in ASP "chunks".. Therefore set the generic http protocol profile to enable "chunk bypass" on HTTP.

Below is an example of network traffic captured during the Funds Refill process:

POST /t3cometserver.asp HTTP/1.1
Host: 10.10.10.102
Transfer-Encoding: chunked
Content-Type: text/xml
Expect: 100-continue
