Setting up a wired LAN connection on the DM300C, DM400C

SmartLink™ connects your franking machine to your LAN (Local Area Network) via an ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. It enables you to add postage and perform data uploads with speed and ease, as well as access postage rates and software updates automatically by connecting your franking machine digitally to Pitney Bowes.

You can connect to the Pitney Bowes Data Centre using the USB LAN Kit with a Local Area Network (LAN) that has internet access.

Connecting via LAN eliminates the need for an analogue phone line connection and provides a faster transmission speed.

Physical installation

  1. Turn the franking machine off.
  2. Plug the franking machine's Ethernet cable into the network plug on the wall.
  3. Attach the Network adapter to the Ethernet cable.
  4. Plug the Network adapter into one of the USB ports on the back of the franking machine.

  5. Verify that there is no phone cord connected to the franking machine.
  6. Turn the franking machine on. It will reboot automatically.
  7. When the Mail Run screen appears, the LEDs on the network adapter should light up or flicker within 15 seconds. This indicates that there is a connection to the network.
  8. Press Options.
  9. Press Page Down twice.
  10. Select Data Centre Options.
  11. Press Page Down.
  12. If the Connection Method is not already set to Auto, select the button next to Connection Method to change it to Auto.

Automatically get an IP address (DHCP)

  1. Press Options.
  2. Press Page Down twice.
  3. Select Network Settings.
  4. Select Get IP.
  5. Select Automatically.

Static IP address

  1. Press Options.
  2. Press Page Down twice.
  3. Select Network Settings.
  4. Select Get IP.
  5. Select Specify Address Manually.
    1. Select IP Addr and enter the IP address.
    2. Select Subnet and enter the subnet mask.
    3. Select Gateway and enter the gateway.

DNS server

  1. Press Options.
  2. Press Page Down twice.
  3. Select Data Center Options.
  4. Select Distributor Settings.
  5. Press Page Down.
  6. Select Primary DNS or Secondary DNS.
  7. Select Continue.
  8. Select Edit Options.
  9. Enter your DNS server address.
  10. Select OK.
  11. Select Accept.
  12. Press Home to return to the home screen.

Proxy server

  1. Press Options.
  2. Press Page Down twice.
  3. Select Data Centre Options.
  4. Select Network Setup.
  5. Select Proxy.
  6. Select Enabled.
  7. Select HTTP Settings and enter the HTTP proxy information.
