If you wish to ship multiple orders to the same address together, you first need to enable the feature and choose the settings. Once configured, whenever consecutive orders are scanned that have the same address, they will be merged into a single consolidated shipment.

This article only applies to the warehouse fulfillment version of PitneyShip Enterprise.

About this feature

  • This feature only applies to package orders that come into the system through the Orders API.
  • The first scanned order becomes the master order and dictates the packaging, dimensions, weight, and all default shipment properties.
  • All subsequent scanned orders with the same address and order type are automatically merged until the label is printed.
  • Up to 50 orders can be merged into a single shipment.
  • Until the label is printed, you can move items between packages and merge or unmerge them.
  • You can choose what happens if orders with different addresses are scanned.
  • For international orders, customs data is taken only from the first order; subsequent orders contribute only their line-item details.
  • Removing one order keeps the rest merged. Unmerging the master order resets the entire shipment.
  • A shipped‑together group appears in the History as a single merged entry with one tracking number. All included orders are searchable individually.
  • Voiding a merged shipment resets all associated orders back to unfulfilled, so that they can be scanned again.

Enabling shipping orders together

You first need to turn this feature on before you can use it.

  1. Select Settings > Admin Options.
  2. Select Enable Scan to Ship Together (Shipping with other goods or SWOG).
  3. Choose what happens when orders with different addresses are scanned:
    • Don’t allow ship together: Do not allow combining orders with different addresses
    • Use first order: Automatically uses the shipping address from the first scanned order
    • Always ask: Prompts the user to choose which shipping address to use

Shipping orders together

Once the feature is enabled, when orders are scanned with the same address, it will work like this:

  1. If you are not already on the New Shipment/Order Details page, go to Shipping & Mailing > Order Details.
  2. Scan the first order. The order is added to the Related Orders section on the left.
  3. Scan the next order and any additional orders you wish to add to the shipment. As long as the orders have the same address, they will be added to the Related Orders section.
    • To remove an order from the shipment, click the x next to the order number.

  4. (Optional) Change any information if needed. If you change anything, select the Rate button on the right to update the rate.
  5. For international shipments, select the Export Type and enter any other required information under Customs Information on the right.
  6. If you use cost accounts, either click in the Cost Account field on the right and start typing the cost account name or code to search, or select the search icon to view the entire account list.
  7. Select Print or press the F10 key. Depending upon your print settings, the label may automatically open as a PDF or print directly to your printer.
    • Printer settings are located under Settings > Print Options.
