Products affected:
PitneyTrack® Inbound
Issue
The J794 / Zebra DS3678 scanner does not correctly decode tracking numbers when scanning barcodes PitneyTrack.
- The scanner is configured to add a tab key.
- The scanned output includes extra characters (0029).
- The tracking number is not recognized by PitneyTrack.
- The issue happens mostly on Mac computers.
Cause
The scanner is not properly ignoring the Group Separator (GS) character, resulting in the inclusion of 0029 in the scanned output.
- Full scanned value: 42007074986500299405508106245783263374.
- Prefix: 4200707498650029.
- GS character (0029) is retained instead of being stripped.
- The presence of 0029 and additional data prevents PitneyTrack from recognizing the tracking number.
Resolution
Reprogram the scanner
- Use the updated programming barcode provided below to correct scanner behavior. This configuration will:
- Factory reset the scanner.
- Remove / ignore the GS (0029) character.
- Send a tab after each scan.
- Apply ADF (Advanced Data Formatting) rules to clean the scanned data.
Test in PitneyTrack
- Scan a new shipping label.
- Confirm that the output no longer includes 0029.
- Verify that only the tracking number is captured correctly.
