Labels not printing in Safari or Firefox in PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, and PitneyShip Enterprise

If 4 x 6 labels are not printing in Safari or Firefox, your browser printer setting may need to be adjusted.
Products affected: PitneyShip®, PitneyShip® Pro, PitneyShip® Enterprise

Issue

If you are using a Windows computer and Mozilla Firefox's PDF Viewer to print 4 x 6 shipping labels, labels may print larger than normal or you may receive a paper mismatch error.

Cause

Your browser's printer settings are not correct for 4 x 6 labels.

Resolution

Windows

If you are getting a paper mismatch error, remove the print jobs from the print queue

  1. Press the Windows Key + R.
  2. Type Control Panel.
  3. Click OK or press Enter.
  4. Change the View By: field to Small icons.
  5. Open Devices and Printers.
  6. Right-click on the 4 x 6 printer and choose See what's printing.
  7. From the Printer menu, choose Cancel All Documents.

In Firefox, set the default PDF viewer to Adobe

  1. In Firefox, click the Menu icon.

  2. Choose Options.
  3. Scroll down to the Applications section.
  4. Change the option for Portable Document Format (PDF) to Use Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

Mac

If you are getting a paper mismatch error, remove the print jobs from the print queue

  1. From the menu at the top of your Mac, select the Apple menu > System Preferences.
  2. Choose Printers & Scanners.
  3. Choose your 4 x 6 printer.
  4. Choose Open Print Queue.
  5. Click the x icon to delete the print jobs in the queue.

For Firefox, set the default PDF viewer to Adobe

  1. In Firefox, click the Menu icon.

  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the Applications section.
  4. Change the option for Portable Document Format (PDF) to Use Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
    • If Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is not available, choose Use macOS default application instead.

If using Safari, change the settings as follows

  1. In the print dialog window for the shipping label, select your 4 x 6 printer.
  2. Change the Paper Size to 4" x 6".
  3. From the Presets menu, choose Save Current Settings As Preset...
  4. Name the preset and choose Only this Printer.
  5. Click OK.

Printing the label using the Adobe Reader Plug-in

  1. After creating a label, once the label is generated, the Adobe Reader’s print dialog box opens. Select your 4 x 6 printer.
  2. Check the box Choose paper source by PDF page size.
  3. Choose Actual Size.
  4. Select Print.
