Installing the Brother QL-1100 printer in PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, PitneyShip Enterprise, or ShipAccel

Learn how to install the Brother QL-1100 in PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, PitneyShip Enterprise, or ShipAccel.

You can install the Brother QL-1100 printer on either a Windows or a Mac computer for use with PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, PitneyShip Enterprise, or ShipAccel.

In this article:

Windows installation

  1. Sign in to the computer using a user account that has Administrator privileges.
  2. Close all open programs.
  3. If the printer is connected to the computer via USB, unplug the USB cable from the printer so that the printer is not connected to the computer.
  4. Download the printer driver for Windows.
  5. Go to your Downloads folder and double-click on the downloaded file brcinst10004.exe.
  6. If a security warning appears, select Run.
  7. Connect the printer to the computer using the USB cable.
  8. Turn the printer on.
  9. Click Auto Select on the installer window.

  10. Choose Brother QL-1100 and click OK.

  11. Fill in the Name/Company fields.
  12. Uncheck all boxes except Printer Driver.

  13. Click OK.
  14. Click Agree and Agree again.
  15. The installer will prompt you to confirm the USB connection. Select Local Connection (USB).

  16. Click Next.
  17. Click Finish.

Mac installation

  1. Quit all programs before starting the installation.
  2. If the printer is connected to the computer via USB, unplug the USB cable from the printer so that the printer is not connected to the computer.
  3. Download the print driver from the Brother QL-1100 Downloads page. You will need to select your MacOS version and accept the license agreement.
  4. Go to your Downloads folder and double-click on the downloaded file MacCommonInst101x9all.dmg.
  5. Open Software/Document Installer.
  6. Click Open on the security prompt.
  7. Connect the printer to the computer using the USB cable.
  8. Turn the printer on.
  9. Click Auto Select on the installer window.
  10. Choose Brother QL-1100 and click OK.
  11. Double-click Start Here Mac.
  12. Click Continue.
  13. Click Continue.
  14. Click Agree.
  15. Click Install.

Installing the roll

The only roll that can be used with the Brother QL-1100 printer is item number SL-DK-1247 in the Pitney Bowes Online Shop.

  1. Pull the release levers on both sides of the printer to unlock the cover, and lift the cover to open it.

  2. Remove the protective sheet from the output slot.

  3. Place the DK roll into the guide. Make sure the roll is inserted firmly in the guide and the stabilizer slides into the notch in the printer.

  4. Thread the DK roll through the printer. Align the edge of the DK roll with the upright edge of the output slot. Check that the DK roll is threaded straight. Push the first label through the output slot unit the end comes out of the slot.

    If experiencing trouble loading the label roll, try inserting from the side making sure the label is under the sensor.

  5. Close the cover.

  6. Press the power button to turn the printer on.

  7. Press the feed button. The roll will be drawn back into the printer to align the end of the roll for the next print.

Turning off sleep mode

By default the Brother QL-1100 printer goes into sleep mode after 60 minutes of non-use. The same is true for the QL-1110NWB if not using a wireless or Bluetooth connection. Printing while the printer is asleep does not automatically wake it up. It must be turned back on manually with the power button. To disable this feature:

Windows

  1. Go to support.brother.com.
  2. Select Downloads.
  3. Enter the model number of the printer, QL-1100 or QL-1110NWB, and select Search.
  4. Choose your operating system, then select OK.
  5. Select Printer Setting Tool under Utilities.
  6. Select Agree to the EULA and Download. The file will be downloaded to your computer's Downloads folder.
  7. Go to your Downloads folder and open the file you just downloaded.
  8. When the installer says Installation complete, select Finish.
  9. Go to Windows Start > All Programs > Brother > Printer Setting Tool.
  10. Select Device Settings.
  11. From the Auto Power On menu, choose On.
  12. From the Auto Power Off(AC/DC) menu, choose None.
  13. Select Apply.
  14. Select Exit.
  15. Select Exit again.

Mac

  1. Go to support.brother.com.
  2. Select Downloads.
  3. Enter the model number of the printer, QL-1100 or QL-1110NWB, and select Search.
  4. Choose your operating system, then select OK.
  5. Select Printer Setting Tool under Utilities.
  6. Select Agree to the EULA and Download. The file will be downloaded to your computer's Downloads folder.
  7. Go to your Downloads folder and open the file you just downloaded.
  8. Open Brother PrinterSettingTool.pkg.
  9. Select Continue.
  10. Select Continue again.
  11. Select Agree.
  12. Select Install.
  13. The installer may ask for your Mac system login and password.
  14. When the installation is complete, select Close.
  15. Go to Go > Applications > Brother > Printer Setting Tool.
  16. From the Auto Power on menu, choose Enable.
  17. From the Auto Power Off(AC/DC) menu, choose None.
  18. Select Apply Settings to the Printer.
  19. Select Exit.
