What are surcharges on the SendPro MailCenter 1000, 2000, and 3000

Surcharges allow you to add a fee to mail costs during the Accounting or Run Mail processes.

There are two types of surcharges, global surcharges and batch or customized surcharges.

• If you create a surcharge in Manage Accounts, you create a global surcharge. The meter applies this type of surcharge to every transaction it processes.
• If you create a surcharge in Run Mail, you are applying a batch surcharge, or a surcharge that is customized for a specific transaction. The batch surcharge values revert to the global surcharge settings when you close the job, reload the job, or when the batch is ended.

You can apply a surcharge per piece of mail, per transaction, and/or per transaction percentage.

• An amount per transaction surcharge is applied to each batch (or transaction) run on the system. This surcharge can be set anywhere from -50.00 to 50.00.
• An amount per mailpiece surcharge is calculated by multiplying the number of pieces processed by the surcharge setting. This surcharge can be set anywhere from -1.00 to 1.00.
• A percentage per mailpiece surcharge is calculated multiplying the postage cost of the entire batch by the percent transaction setting. This surcharge can be set anywhere from -100% to 100%.

Note: The currency amount entered can be either positive or a negative. A negative amount indicates a discount is applied to the postage amount for the mailpiece of mail or transaction. A positive amount indicates a surcharge will be applied to the postage amount for the mailpiece or transaction.

Using a residual rate surcharge

Use the residual rate surcharge to process mail at a discounted rate while billing your customer the standard postage as a surcharge.

Note: The residual rate surcharge is a purchasable option. Accounting is also required to utilize this surcharge.

Residual rate surcharge selections are made within Run Mail. You can use the surcharge with any postal job. You must set the residual rate surcharge to Yes for the job.

The residual rate surcharge is the difference between the postal rate for the billing class and discounted postal rate used to process the mail.

Selecting the residual rate surcharge

1. Select Run Mail from the Home screen.
2. Select Residual Rates Surcharge. Ensure the button shows Yes.
3. Select Billing Class.
4. Select the class of postage you want to use to bill your customer. The class you select should contain the normal postage rate. Select OK to proceed.
5. Select Class and then select the class you want to obtain the discounted rate. This is the rate that will be used to process the mail.
6. Select Start or Tape to begin printing mail.
