Printing issues on Zebra ZT230 and ZT231 printers in PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, or PitneyShip Enterprise
If you get the message "Media Out" or "Ribbon Out", if labels do not feed or print correctly, or if the printer reports supply-related errors even though labels are loaded, follow these steps to make sure that all of the printer settings are correct.

Issue
One or more of the following occur:
- The message "Media Out" appears
- The message "Ribbon Out" appears
- The message "Alert Ribbon Out" appears
- Labels do not feed correctly
- Labels do not print
- The printer reports supply-related errors even though labels are loaded
Resolution
Follow these steps to verify that all of the printer settings are correct.
- In the Windows Search box, search for Control Panel and select it.
- Right-click on Devices and Printers and choose Open in new window.
Note: Opening Devices and Printers in a new window prevents Windows from redirecting to the Settings application. - Right-click on the Zebra printer that is experiencing the issue and select Printer Properties.
- On the General tab, select Preferences.
- Select the Page Setup tab and verify the following settings:
- Width: 3.00"
- Height: 2.00"
- Width Adjustment: 0.00
- Height Adjustment: 0.00
- Rotation: 0°, Portrait
- Horizontal Position Adjustment: 0.00
- Vertical Position Adjustment: 0.00
- Mirror: Disabled
- Select Apply.
- Select the Print Options tab and verify the following settings:
- Print settings:
- Speed: 4
- Darkness: 15
- Printing Mode: Tear Off
- Offsets:
- Top: 0
- Left: 0
- Advanced settings:
- Backfeed: Default
- Pause: No Pause
- Print settings:
- Select Apply.
- Select the Operation Mode tab and verify the following settings:
- Mode: Direct Thermal
- Media Type: Gap/Notch
- Select Apply.
Important: The printer must be configured for Direct Thermal mode. If the printer is configured for Thermal Transfer mode while no ribbon is installed, the printer may display "Ribbon Out" errors. - Select OK to close the Printing Preferences and return to the Printer Properties window.
- In the Printer Properties window, select the Advanced tab.
- Select Printing Defaults.
- Make sure that all of the settings on the Page Setup, Print Options, and Operation Mode tabs match the values listed above.
- Select Apply, then select OK.
- Print a test label and verify that labels advance and print correctly without errors.
Additional Troubleshooting
If the issue persists:
- Verify that labels are loaded correctly.
- Verify that the installed media matches the configured media type.
- Restart the printer.
- Perform a printer calibration.
- Clean the media sensors if contamination is present.
