Internet Connection Troubleshooting

If you connect to the Pitney Bowes Data Center through a local area network (or LAN), your computer, or Wireless (Wi-Fi), issues with internet connectivity can have many causes. Most problems involve either the internet connection, software application configuration, or the mailing system itself. Occasionally, a connection to the Pitney Bowes Data Center might be lost or interrupted during a rate change due to heavy traffic.

For FAQs, view Troubleshooting connection error codes and system messages.

USB Ethernet Connectivity Kit:
DM Series mailing systems configured with USB Ethernet Connectivity Kit connect to the Data Center using a wired LAN. If a connection attempt fails immediately but you can access a website such as pitneybowes.com/us, it is likely that you have a firewall problem.

Check your PC Meter Connect Configuration:

  1. Be sure the latest version of PC Meter Connect is installed on your computer, and that it is connected to your mailing system.
  2. Apply Internet Settings from within the PC Meter Connect application: Right-click the PC Meter Connect icon in the system tray (located in bottom right corner of the screen), and select Internet Settings from the menu:
    • Select Non-Chunked as the HTTP Transfer Encoding Method
    • Select HTTP or HTTPS as the Protocol. If option is greyed out, select Passive FTP Mode as the Protocol.

Check Your Internet Connection and Firewall Configuration

  1. Check to make sure you have an internet connection. Go to pitneybowes.com from your computer. If the website displays, the internet connection is working.
  2. Run this test to determine if the problem is caused by security filters/firewall settings on your network:
  1. Shift your troubleshooting focus to the equipment and software. If you see a specific message instead of a line of zeros, it is highly likely that the problem is a web filtering or firewall issue. This can be resolved by adding the Pitney Bowes servers to your exceptions/whitelist.

Contact your network administrator to apply these changes. As changes to IP Addresses are likely to be ongoing, Pitney Bowes strongly recommends that the firewall references specific URLs rather than IP Addresses.

These URLs must be accessible without any obstructions:
