Installing the PB Shim Proxy Layer for SendSuite Live

Effective March 31st, 2022, Pitney Bowes will be transitioning from ConnectShip to a new carrier library. In preparation for this change, the PB Shim Proxy Layer must be installed.

SendSuite Live utilizes a third-party carrier connector called ConnectShip for the purpose of providing carrier rating, ERR and Registered Mail returns, and tracking support.

Effective March 31st, 2022, Pitney Bowes will not be renewing our SendSuite Live ConnectShip licenses and will instead transition to a new carrier library solution. The ConnectShip licensing is covered as part of the SMA contract tied to your lease and is billed annually for clients who purchased their solutions.

We will be implementing a phased approach for our SendSuite Live clients. In preparation for the new carrier library solution, you need to install the PB Shim Proxy Layer as the framework for the future carrier library on the computer that hosts SendSuite Live.

Prerequisites

Before proceeding, ensure that the following prerequisites are satisfied:

  1. Collect the following information:
    • SQL Server attributes for connecting to the SendSuite Live Database:
      • SQL Server Instance name
      • SendSuite Live Database name (default is [SendSuite Live])
      • SQL login user ID (if using SQL authentication)
      • SQL Login password (if using SQL authentication)
    • Customer business name (preferably the name by which the company is known to Pitney Bowes).
  2. Ensure that the following ports are open:
    • Port 8084 (local only)
    • Port 443 (Internet)
  3. The following URL is whitelisted in all applicable firewalls:
    • https://api.sendpro360.pitneybowes.com/connectship

Download and Install the Software

  1. Download the PB Shim Proxy Layer installer to a familiar location (e.g., Downloads) on the computer system hosting SendSuite Live.
  2. Navigate to the download location.
  3. Right-click on ShimProxyInstaller.exe and select Run as Administrator.
  4. Select Next on the introduction page.
  5. Choose a location for the software installation. The default path is C:\ShimProxy\.
  6. Select Next.
  7. Choose the appropriate SQL connection method:
    • If using SQL authentication, enter the appropriate ID and password.
    • If using Windows Authentication, make sure that the Windows user account that you are currently signed in with has sa privileges for the SendSuite Live database.
  8. Provide the SQL Server Instance and SendSuite Live Database names.
  9. Select Test Connection.
    • If you do not get a "Connection Successful" message, verify the SQL information and physical network connection state, then try again. If it continues to fail after you have confirmed the SQL connection details and network connection state, you can install Microsoft's SQL Command Line Utilities to troubleshoot connection errors.
  10. Once the SQL connection is successful, select Next.
  11. Enter the following:
    • Customer Business Name
    • Preferred port (8084 is the default)
    • Preferred timeout (15 minutes is the default)
  12. Select Install.
  13. When the installation is complete, select Close.

Verify Successful Installation

  1. In the Windows search box, type services then select Services (App).
  2. Find PB Shim Proxy Service. The status should say Running. If it does not, close all programs and restart the computer, then check again. If the service is still not running, use the Contact Us options below to contact Pitney Bowes support for assistance.
